We designed the book we wished we had.

After a 13-month sojourn in Asia (2005-2006), we returned home with a newfound appreciation for foreign language, and the difficulties found in not knowing one. Our experience in China inspired us to found Me No Speak, and publish a series of language companions that break the mold of traditional travel guide books and phrase books, which often fall short of being helpful.

It all started one night in a
Chinese hotel room...

From transportation glitches to dining disasters--and, yes, bathroom emergencies--our books are the result of difficulties we faced in foreign countries with limited language skills.

It all started one night in a Chinese hotel room, wondering how we could possibly get a train ticket
or order food when no one spoke English--we solved the issue with hand-drawn pictures and phrases. The technique was so successful, we just had to turn the idea into a book. We believe travelers should attempt the language of their destination, but sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words.
